A POPULAR Barrow singer has used the funds raised from her latest CD to generate money for a mental health charity.

Becki Fishwick is well known for her performances across the country.

During her career, she has appeared at Kendal Calling, the Manchester Jazz Bar, and numerous weddings and events all across England.

While living in lockdown, Becki continued with her work and released her latest CD ‘A Trip Down Memory Lane’ with the intention of donating £1 from each sale to Dementia UK.

She said: “The CDs will see a pound from each going toward Dementia UK.

“I do a lot of 40s music and started when I was six. I began performing in my 20s.

“It is a charity I have supported before over the last few years and I’ve sung at some of their events, and at care homes.

“It shows how important music is for the mind.

“I sadly lost my grandfather to it recently so it is a very important cause for me.

“Lockdown was tough for everyone and it was difficult for anyone working in the music industry.

“It’s not exactly the same for every musician but a lot of us couldn’t get shows or gigs which meant no income through music.

“Hopefully people are getting more confidence this year and are planning to go out.

“We hope things will move forward and get back to normal fairly soon."

Becki said she had to look at different ways of doing business to help support herself during lockdown and did a lot of music teaching as well.

This is the fifth year she has raised money through her CDs and she said it was going really well.

“I used to sell them in the bags at events and shows, and now we sell them on a display we have in the shop," she said.

“People buy them with gifts and last week alone we donated £25 to the charity.

“We donated a lot last year which I was so happy with because every little bit helps these organisations.

“In total we have raised over £1,000 for these charities and I hope to keep doing that in the future.

“It is really down to everyone who bought the music and supported these organisations.

“I just wanted to help them along with that process.”
