A BUTCHERS has made it to the final of a prestigious competition.

Higginsons of Grange, in Grange-over-Sands have been selected as a finalist in two categories in this years butcher shop of the year awards.

Managing Director Mark Porter said he is 'over the moon' to have bee selected into the finals of the competition. He said: "We entered in the hopes of doing ok in the competition but we didn't really expect to be up there really.

"We do a good job and we have some good members of staff in the business and it's a big honour to be in the top three in the north of England.

Mr Porter has been working at Higginsons since 1994, working at the company for 27 years. In October 2021, he bought the butchers from previous owners Stuart and Pauline Higginson who founded the butchers in 1983. Mr Porter said he was 'emotional' and 'ecstatic' to hear that they made it into the finals.

Mark still maintains a good relationship with the former owner Stuart Higginson, often can see Mr Higginson helping out around the butchers. Mr Porter said it is a 'massive honour' to continue on from where Stuart and his wife Pauline left the shop and to try and improve.

Mr Porter said it was a simple decision to take over the butchers saying that former owner Mr Higginson is proud of what they have achieved since taking on the shop.

Higginsons are finalists in the north of England butcher shop of the year and butchers display of the year.

The finalists will be invited down to the farm shop and deli show at the NEC in Birmingham on April 26, 2022, Mr Porter said he will taking former owner Stuart Higginson, Mark Dickinson and hopefully his wife.

Mr Porter said business is 'busier then ever' saying that 'we have been lucky' he said: "When Covid hit, we weren't getting the passing trade as such, so we had to diversify into home deliveries, ready meals and it really took off so we have been very lucky."
