NURSERY children have been immersing themselves in Far Eastern culture ahead of the Chinese New Year.

This January the Old Vicarage Day Nursery has welcomed back all children after Christmas with plenty of fun and creativity.

The Old Vicarage teachers set off with their 2022 curriculum and the Duckling Class will be studying nature and things of beauty from around the globe this year as part of their syllabus on 'Culture Capital' and 'Understanding the World', which are part of the EYFS.

Ahead of Chinese New Year, Duckling Class teacher, Miss Laura Burrows, has been teaching her two-year-old pupils about the famous cherry blossom trees that are sacred in China and Japan.

The pink and white blossom trees were originally grown in the Himalayas in China and are still revered there today. The cherry blossom trees are now almost synonymous with the beauty of Japan.

Miss Burrows said the children had 'so much fun' taking part in the Chinese New Year activity.

She said: "We will be studying Chinese New Year - the year of the tiger, in a few weeks, so I thought it would be interesting for the class to do some creative activities to support that them in our syllabus.

"The children had so much fun during the activity, as they always do when we are painting! We do a lot of sensory and creative activities with the ducklings so that they can learn whilst playing and feel proud of the work they have made themselves."
