WHEN asked if a Michelin Star restaurant experience is worth the money - the answer would be yes when it comes to Rogan and Co in Cartmel.
The village, known for their horse racing events, contains two of the best restaurants in the county in L'Enclume and Rogan and Co, holding three Michelin stars between them.
I visited the one starred Rogan and Co where head chef Liam Fitzpatrick showcases the style and techniques that owner Simon Rogan has become known for whilst also using the finest in Lake District produce.
Service upon arrival was friendly and professional as expected and we were swiftly seated after our coats were taken and hung up.
Starters arrived shortly after our gins - which were superbly refreshing - and they certainly wowed without being too overbearing in terms of size.
I had the ‘Mackerel tartare, horseradish, radish pickles and dill’ and my partner had the ‘Glazed chicken wings, smoked bone marrow, yellow bean and sweetcorn’.
Both were perfect for wetting the appetite and oozed with fresh flavour that reflected the rural surroundings.
My 'Wild Valley game, celeriac, pear and fig leaf' main soon followed alongside the 'Roasted Goosnargh duck, Kalibos cabbage, beetroot and blackberry' for my partner which was certainly the showcase meal of the experience with the servers giving detailed description on the cooking that had gone into our dishes.
The taste of the food is like something you could not know unless you have been yourself - and these mains in particular showed there are levels to cooking beyond the layman's imagination.
My only concern going into this was having overbearing waiters who overdo service, making you feel like you're constantly being watched, however that did not happen - much to my appreciation.
Desserts ensued and I guzzled down my 'Caramelised gingerbread, Granny Smith & miso caramel' and my partner mirrored my appetite by eating her dark chocolate fondant with equal speed.
