BARROW Raiders are due to open their 2022 campaign with a friendly at home to Workington Town, it has been announced.

The all-Cumbrian affair is set to take place at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium on Sunday, January 9, with kick-off 3pm.

Raiders have spent much of the off-season building up their squad in preparation for what they are hoping to be a successful season in the Championship.

The newest signings have been training with the squad in their preparation and have had their squad numbers revealed.

Latest recruit and former Super League half-back Jarrod Sammut will wear shirt number six in 2022, while Ryan Johnston remains number seven.

New 2022 signing Danny Langtree will wear number 11 next season, while former Wakefield hooker Josh Wood has been handed number 22.

Alongside those three, Sam Brooks and Ellis Gillam are hoping to make an impact for the club after joining back in November.

One of their marquee signings, Jarrod Sammut, who has previously played for Penrith Panthers, Bradford Bulls, London Broncos, Leigh Centurions and Wigan Warriors., is one fans will be looking to help the club push up the table in the coming season.

"Adding that older, more experienced head amongst a group of lads eager to push on from the high of promotion and keep competing with the top teams I think puts us in good stead heading into the new season, with nothing to lose so to speak attitude," he said upon signing.

“Personally, I want to push for play-offs and give the competition a real shake.”
