A TAKEAWAY food app is offering up a unique way to raise funds for a vital cause.

Barrow Eats has launched their Foodbank Christmas Appeal shortly after Barrow Foodbank fell victim to vandals who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Barrow Eats have added the appeal to their app and website, allowing people to purchase items from the Foodbank’s Christmas hamper shopping list.

The 50p surcharge for ordering items will also be donated to the Foodbank.

Donations are being taken until December 6.

Scott Beckman, co-founder of Barrow Eats, said: “People are going to be able to go on the app and put in one pack of crackers for a pound, or they can do the whole list.

“It’s just going to be able to give people a way to donate to the foodbank.

“December is always the busiest month and with the storm and cold temperatures, it’s required more than ever.

“Some people might only want to be able to donate one tin of potatoes because that’s all they can afford, but they’re not going to be able to go to a shop then go all the way to the food bank to drop it off.

"We are also going to donate the service charge so the 50p you pay every time you order will go to them as well. The foodbank will be able to use that money to get things outside of Christmas items.

“If we got 1,000 orders then that would be an extra £500 for the foodbank.

“I spoke to the Foodbank and they said that they have a lot of people wanting to make donations but they haven’t been able to allow people to get down there because of the break in, so it gives people a way to make a donation.

“It is going to be running for a week because the Foodbank needs time to get their order in and sort it to then distribute. It is Barrow Foodbank in association with Ulverston as well, so it will be split.”
