A POPULAR award-winning Windermere boutique has been named as Best in Cumbria by the England Business Awards.

The Hen House, located on Crag Bank, is owned by Joanna Ireland and had previously won the award back in 2019.

Receiving their recent award on November 23, the boutique was named as the Best Fashion Boutique in Cumbria.

Joanna said: “We are absolutely delighted about this award; we’re chuffed to bits.

“We won it two years ago and it’s so great to win it again.

“It’s a bit of great news to have after all that’s been going on this year.

“We never knew who nominated us but it’s so nice to have this level of response to the business.

“It’s nice to know we’ve got some fans out there.

“Since lockdown we’ve branched out into online service which has gone really well. It’s been a roaring success.

“It was a learning curve for us when we started but it worked out really well.

“I opened my first shop in 2002 and had three in operation at one point. I’ve had the Bowness shop for the past eight years; one was in Kirkby Lonsdale while the other was not too far from my shop now.

“I decided to focus on the Hen House when I had a family.

“We’re a lady fashion boutique. We focus on casual wear, not exclusively dress wear. We have a lot of fair-trade products like gloves and head bands. We also sell hand warmers, scarfs, and every day fashion.

“We were also previously nominated for an Eva award.

“I have an amazing team with me who I owe so much to. Without them none of this would be possible.”
