A HISTORY society is inviting the public to attend its AGM this month.

The Millom and District Local History Society will have its AGM on November 30, between 6pm-7pm at Millom Heritage and Arts Centre.

They will be electing new members of the Board and amending the Constitution.

The proposed change in the constitution is to remove 'the objects: to study the history, in its broadest context, of the area surrounding Millom'.

They propose that the objects should be replaced with; to promote and encourage interest in and research into the local history of Millom and its surrounding areas, to arrange events and activities which will cater for the above, including lectures, outings and exhibitions, and to acquire funding to commission relevant geophysical surveys and archaeological digs within Millom and its surrounding areas.

A spokeswoman for The Millom and District Local History Society, said: "There is an incredible amount of history in this area from Neolithic to Bronze through the Roman period, Medieval, right up to Victorian and now. And the Society looks forward to developing an exciting programme to celebrate this unique history. We welcome everyone who shares this interest and passion to get involved or just come along to find out more."
