THE food hygiene rating of a South Lakeland takeaway has been revealed.

MamaMia Pizzeria and Grill was awarded four out of five in the September inspection.

This score indicates food hygiene standards at the site, situated in Market Place, Ambleside, are 'good'.

The takeaway received a 'generally satisfactory' rating in two out of three inspection areas and a 'very good' rating in the third.

The breakdown of the inspection was as follows:

  • Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage - generally satisfactory
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand-washing facilities and pest control - to enable good food hygiene - very good
  • System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer having confidence that standards will be maintained in future - generally satisfactory

The Food Hygiene Rating scheme is set out in law in Wales and Northern Ireland, but display of a rating sticker on a premises is voluntary in England.
