A SECTION of road is to be closed off to allow for bridge works to be carried out in Millom.

Notice has been given that to enable Cumbria Highways to carry out the works, Cumbria County Council intends to make an order to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along a section of the C4028 Duddon Woods, Millom, from its junction with the U4064 extending in an easterly direction for approximately 200 metres.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and a suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted sections of the C4028, C5007 and A595.

The order will come into operation today and may continue to be in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months.

However, it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 12 days and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or vehicles being used in connection with the works.
