GOAL-KICKING winger Ryan Shaw has signed a new, extended contract at Barrow Raiders.

The new deal will see Shaw remain with the rugby league club until the 2023 season.

“I’m really happy to commit myself to the club for the next few years with the direction they are going in on and off the field,” said Shaw.

“It’s something you want to be part of.

"We have to target the top six of the league and then push on to becoming a force in the Championship next season.

“Last year was great. It was a tough season for all players in our league with basically no pre-season, which contributed to lots of injuries.

“We dealt with that very well, grinding out some tough wins with battered bodies.

"The last game was a highlight in my career. Seeing so many familiar faces share the day of lifting the league trophy at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium was fantastic.”

Shaw initially signed a deal with Raiders in December of last year.

He had previously featured for Bradford Bulls, Swinton Lions and Hull Kingston Rovers before returning to his hometown club on a permanent deal.

Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “Ryan brought a wealth of Super League experience when he signed last year.

“He proved his value with his nerveless touchline conversion at Rochdale to pick up the win, which ultimately helped us go on and win the league at home against West Wales.

“Ryan has now moved back to live and work in the area and is fully committed to improving the team, and I look forward to working with him for at least the next two seasons.”
