BARROW Raiders have announced the re-signing of Nathan Mossop for the Betfred Championship season.

The number nine hooker was on Paul Crarey’s squad in the 2021 League 1 campaign, and has signed again for the exciting 2022 Championship season.

Mossop said: “I was fortunate enough to be offered a new contract and I can’t thank the club and fans enough for their support over the years.

“As I move into my latter years, you take each year as a blessing and I’m forever grateful to be given the opportunity to do it all again next year in the Championship.

“The club is constantly improving both on and off the pitch, and the success the club had last year makes it a special place to be around. Steve’s (Neale) vision as chairman and Paul’s leadership as head coach is something that will attract the top players in wanting to play for Barrow.

“A special thanks must go to Andy Gaffney who I know is working tirelessly around the clock to finalise deals and get contracts over the line. I wouldn’t do his job for all the gold coins in the world.

“My goal for the 2022 season is to be the best I can be. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but I firmly disagree with that. I’m always keen to learn new things and improve, and I believe we have the right people in and around the club at the moment who can help me do so.

“I played every league game of the 2021 season, so it would be great to do that again in the Championship.”

On the upcoming pre-season and the new challenge of the Championship, Mossop added: “As strange as it sounds, I love pre-season. Some of the lads aren’t keen, but what’s not to love when you’re being beasted and pushed to your absolute limits on a cold, muddy pitch in the peak of winter.

“I’m also looking forward to getting back amongst the lads. We have a great group down at Barrow and we’re not just team mates; but friends also.

“The club have also made some very valuable additions to the squad. Josh Wood and Danny Langtree are two quality signings and they will only improve our group.

“It will be great to work with Paul and new assistant coach Carl Forster also. Carl will be a great addition to the coaching team as he has a really good rugby brain.

“I would say the goal for the club next season is to keep on growing. The club achieved great things last year both on and off the field, and hopefully we can continue this momentum.

“We have had experience of the Championship before and every week is tough.

"There are some fantastic teams next year and we will need to be consistent every week. As long as we turn up week in week out and give our all, then we can’t go wrong.

“I’m excited to see how the club develops over the next season.”
