THE wife of Wayne Rooney has broken her silence after the former footballer was captured in photos alongside three women from Barrow in a hotel room.

The Derby County manager is the subject of a documentary due to air on Amazon Prime next year.

The former Everton and Manchester United striker apologised to wife Coleen after photos of him asleep in a hotel room surrounded by the three women spread across social media.

In teaser footage released ahead of the documentary, Coleen said she had forgiven him for the incident.

She said: "I forgive him but it wasn't acceptable.

"A few people are probably thinking I am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on."

She added: "He's made silly and selfish mistakes, some he's learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change?"

The women, who were all aged 21 at the time, met the former football star on a night out in Manchester in July.

The former England captain was seen asleep in a chair in a hotel room with two of the women posing beside him.

It was reported that the women apologised to Rooney and offered him copyright of the photos for just £1.

A spokesman for Rooney told a national newspaper at the time: “These were three decent young women who went for a night out.

"They did not expect Wayne to end up in their company and are remorseful about how things turned out with the pictures.

“They got carried away and did something they later regretted.

"They did not expect it to end up in the mainstream media after it was posted on social media and they decided to take steps to put things right.

The 35-year-old and the former England captain, also 35, were childhood sweethearts and got married in 2008, at the age of 22.

The couple have four sons - Kai, Cass, Klay and Kit, and Coleen has enjoyed success as a businesswoman and author.

The documentary, titled 'Rooney' will launch worldwide on Prime Video in early 2022.
