A ROAD closure will come into effect in a South Lakeland town later this week.

The measures in Ulverston will allow 'urgent works' on a bridge-height sign to be carried out.

The closure will apply to the A5087 Hill Fall from a point around 20 metres from its junction with Lightburn Avenue, extending in a northerly direction for around 65 metres.

Cumbria County Council (CCC) says the closure will be in place for a period 'not exceeding' five days from October 14. It is expected the works will take two days.

A CCC spokesman said: "A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times."

The spokesman said an alternative route for vehicles would be signposted and available via the unrestricted section of the A5087, the A590, and Park Road.

He said the notice did not apply to emergency vehicles and would not 'have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from, the roads'.
