BARROW Raiders have announced the signing of a former Super League star from Wakefield Trinity.

The addition of Josh Wood is a statement of intent by the club who are keen to push on in the Championship next year with their eyes firmly on a future Super League spot.

“It’s a complete different change for me going part time but it’s something I feel is needed after a big injury last year and I’m excited for it,” the former Salford Red Devil said.

“My partner and I are having our first child in December as well, so being able to spend more time with them both will be great.

“Me and my agent spoke to a few big Championship clubs, but when I spoke to Andy we got on really well and his ambitions for the club next year are something that excited me.

“I’ve also spoken to a few of the lads that are there and they have nothing but good things to say about the club so I feel it’s a good move for me.

“I’m looking forward to putting last year behind me and getting ripped into 2022 with the lads.”

Speaking after the signing of the 25-year-old half-back, director of rugby Andy Gaffney said that there was plenty more to come in terms of signings.

"He plays in a key position and that is something we have to get spot on for next year," Gaffney said.

"His signing also means that other big players are keen to join us as they know we are serious about our ambitions.

"There are lots more signings to come this week and next with more names to be announced immanently."
