PEOPLE have come out in support for their favourite pie shops after a Barrow bakery was listed the best in the country.

Green's Bakery, on Jarrow Street, was named in 'The Great Pie Revolt: A Gastronomic Guide to the Premier League and EFL' by author Jack Peat.

Dave Myers of the Hairy Bikers - co-author of 'The Ultimate Pie Bible' - and Martin Tarbuck - author of 'Life of Pies' - have both written the book on pies and both conclude that this is the best pie shop in the country.

Mark Green said: "Lots of good pies in Barrow. Hard to say which is 'best' but Greens is one of a number that never disappoint."

Sean Beaumont agreed: "24 pies went back to Sheffield from Green's last time we visited Barrow-in-Furness."

Derek Furlong said: "Yep best pies ever from there when I was growing up. Glad to see they are going from strength to strength."

Plenty of people agreed with the suggestion but others were keen to get a mention for their favourite.

Funny Me said: "Get your self to southwards butchers - best pies around without a doubt."

Mortimer Pink said: "Years ago - growing up in Barrow then to serve my time in the shipyard - I remember Fry's Pies.

"They were a pie like no other.

"2 pies, 6 slices of Mother's Pride - butter only none of this margarine malarkey, Daddies brown sauce & I was well happy.

"Just moved back - I eat Hollands now M&P & Steak & Kidney puds.

"Stomach is grumbling."

Linda Laing said: "I love the pies from the bake shed on Roose Road. When we visit Barrow we always go there."

Paul Gibson said: "The Bakery on Sutherland St is better than Greens. And that one on Roose Road with the gorilla holding the door open."

Ange O'Halloran said: "Higginsons bakery in Grange. They do the best pies and sausage rolls in Cumbria."
