THE Ulverston International Music Festival is making a return next month.

The festival is returning from October 26-30, with nine live performances planned, spanning classic, jazz and world music.

There will also be a special film screening.

The festival’s artistic director Anthony Hewitt said: "We’re keeping things as simple as possible, so although more compact and boutique than usual, the festival still aims to bring the best musicians from the UK and around the world, to perform in Ulverston.

"The festival opens with chamber music, a genre always at the heart of the festival and carrying on the classical vibe, we welcome talented young stars of the piano, cello and the guitar, as well as the return of contralto Jess Dandy, fresh from her debut appearance as a soloist in this year’s BBC First Night of the Proms.”

The festival takes a musical tour of Broadway and West End musicals before celebrating the centenary of Astor Piazzolla with a screening of a documentary followed by a musical tribute to the composer, complete with dancers.

Ending the festival are the critically acclaimed and multi award-winning duo Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita.

The festival takes place at The Coronation Hall, and the nearby Roxy cinema.

The festival is encouraging younger people to come along with tickets at £5 for all under 25s.

Tickets for adults are £5-£25, plus booking fee, and are available from www.thecoro.co.uk
