A MAN who suffered a serious injury after slipping while walking in the Lake District earlier this month is on the road to recovery following surgery.

Mike Potter dislocated his knee after losing his footing while walking through bracken on Holme Fell, near Coniston, on September 9.

Mr Potter, 56, has now had surgery and said he was 'relatively pain-free'.

"I can go about on crutches and that's about it," he said.

Mr Potter said that he was due to have a knee brace fitted this Monday and that it would be many weeks before he was able to walk freely again.

He was out walking with fiancée Amanda Taylor when the incident happened.

The pair had strayed from the main path. However, rescuers were able to locate them with relative ease thanks to what3words, which the couple had downloaded in case of emergency.

The mobile application generates a unique combination of three words to pinpoint a person’s location for use by other people.

Mr Potter, of Milton, a village in Oxfordshire, advised other walkers to have the app downloaded in case of emergency.
