COOKING duo the Hairy Bikers made a pitstop in Cumbria during the first episode of their new culinary road trip.

Barrow’s Dave Myers and his TV partner Si King made a number of stops in Lancashire as they began on their tour across the region for their latest BBC series The Hairy Bikers Go North.

The episode, which aired on Thursday night, followed the pair as they opened the show stopping for breakfast at the Langdon Grill in the Trough of Bowland.

The bikers enjoyed a sausage, bacon and egg bap before heading off to sample pies at award winning The Parkers Arms, Newton-in-Bowland.

Co-owner Stosie Madi greeted Dave and Si at the inn and showed them how to make mutton and curry pies.

She shared her tips for the perfect pastry and told them about the produce the business sources locally.

They then met Ms Madi’s business partner and friend of 30 years Kathy Smith, who was ready to roll out the pastry and form the pies with her grandmother’s 100-year-old rolling pin.

Next up the bikers headed to their first place of accommodation, Clough Bottom farmhouse, north of Clitheroe.

Leaving the 17th century house the presenters set off to find the best beer at Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery in preparation for making a pie.

Speaking to co-owner Stu Taylor they found out about the advantages of cask ale before sitting down for a pint, or two, or three.

Pleased with their choice of beer, the Ruskin bitter, Dave and Si cooked their ‘perfect pie’ a steak, mushroom and ale pie.

Next up on the itinerary was a trip to Preston to learn about the temperance movement at Mr Fitpatrick’s Temperance Bar in Rawtenstall, believed to be Britain’s last original temperance bar.

The pair sampled non-alcoholic beverages including blood tonic, dandelion and burdock and cream soda.

Afterwards, the bikers flicked through a scrap book of their past adventures, made by Si’s mum, including press cuttings of the pair at Dave’s former home on Roa Island.

The tour then passed through Carron Lodge, Inglewhite, to taste buffalo cheese and then Goosnargh Gin, Beacon Fell, before finishing the Lancashire adventure in Blackpool.
