THE food hygiene rating of a Barrow takeaway has been revealed.

Zest Bistro Kitchen was awarded a score of four out of five in the inspection on August 3, 2021.

This indicates food hygiene at the takeaway, based at the Ambrose Hotel, Duke Street, is 'good'.

The breakdown of the inspection was as follows:

  • Hygienic handling of food, including preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage - good
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - including having appropriate layout, ventilation, handwashing facilities and pest control - to enable good food hygiene - generally satisfactory
  • System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer's level of confidence that standards will be maintained in future - good

Zest serves a range of food, from breakfasts through to paninis and burgers.

The Food Hygiene Rating scheme is set out in law in Wales and Northern Ireland, but display of a rating sticker on a premises is voluntary in England.

Ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection by local authority officers.

It is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times.
