IT'S National Hospitality Day and readers have submitted their proposals for the best pub in the region.

Businesses have had a difficult 18 months and National Hospitality Day is an attempt to inject some much-needed love, and more importantly, money, into the businesses which serve our communities.

The Derby Inn Hotel in Barrow was the most popular choice.

Simon Peters said: "The Derby for me. The staff are amazing! So friendly. Big supporters of local live music as well."

Amelia Cringle agreed: "The Derby is the best; amazing staff and excellent atmosphere.  Go the Derby; you are all legends that work there."

Christopher Tempest said: "The Derby.  Why?  Because the staff are amazing, so attentive and put themselves out for you.  It's so reasonably priced for good beer."

However, plenty of others submitted their opinions on the best boozer around.

Vanessa Edney said: "Got to be between the Harbour and Roose Cons; both places are spotless.  Great hosts willing to go above and beyond for the customers. Live entertainment is an added bonus these days, great staff and the best atmosphere in both."

Roy Chambers said: "The Clarance Pub Dalton, it's clean with great, friendly staff.  Great cocktails and good beer.  You have darts, pool and cards and a meat raffle on a Sunday.  All the customers are nice there's and a brilliant atmosphere."

Dawn Wilson said: "Farmer's Arms, Newbarns. Staff are brilliant and Paul and Sue are really proactive in promoting a community pub. Like a proper local. Also supporting local live music."

Sarah Clackett said: "The Hope and Anchor, Ulverston. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, amazing food and cocktails."

Tom Ashton said: "The Bay Horse, Hawcoat.  Cracking beer garden, table service, decent food, football available by request, pool table, great staff, and generally no idiots - other than us!"
