A BRAVE couple trekked up a hilltop in their wedding outfits on their 'dream' wedding day in the Lakes.

Rachel Bramwell, a beauty therapist, and Jason Key, a team Leader for Kier highways, said 'I do' at the The Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge on July 9.

The couple, who live in Staffordshire, first met at their local pub and became good friends after both attending V Festival.

Mrs Key described her husband as 'funny and caring' and someone who 'would do anything for me and our girls'.

And Mr Key said his wife is a 'brilliant mum' who organises the house and day trips for the family.

The couple became engaged on the beach in the Dominican Republic after two years of dating.

The Keys had originally planned to wed in Mexico, however, their plans were scuppered after the travel agents Thomas Cook went bankrupt and the Covid-19 pandemic broke out.

Instead, the smitten pair decided to tie the knot at The Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge in front of 11 guests.

They said: "Covid was a nightmare for us. Luckily, with only a few guests, we didn’t have to contact many people to rearrange, but we did have to change dates on wedding items we had bought for our special day like dressing gowns, cuff links etc which was more time and very stressful.

"We also lost our original photographer and hairdresser but the replacements were absolutely brilliant and we couldn’t be happier with the end results .

"We also had to cancel our reception due to us having 150 guests which Covid restriction’s wouldn’t allow, so we have rebooked the reception for July 9 2022 on our year's anniversary."

Mrs Key said the relief to get married after months of rearranging dates and cancelling plans was 'immense'.

She said: "The day couldn’t have been any more perfect - the weather was beautiful.

"The morning went smoothly and I wasn’t late! The relief to be able to get married after all that we had been through was immense.

"With there only being a few people there we trekked up Gummers How - a fair trek - which the photographer recommended and it was absolutely stunning.

"We ended up being one hour late for our wedding breakfast but the hotel didn’t mind due to there only being 11 of us.

"The food was amazing - all our favourite things but just being and sharing the day with our loved ones in such a picturesque venue and setting was perfect."

For their honeymoon, the couple had planned to holiday to Mexico but instead opted for a spa day at Low Wood Bay.
