BARROW Raiders captain Jarrad Stack has complimented the successful year both Cumbrian sides are having so far in the Betfred League 1 competition.

Raiders currently sit second in the League 1 table with a win percentage of 80, having lost only two games all season to date.

Fellow Cumbrians, Workington, recently took the top spot in the table and have lost just one game this season.

When the two sides met at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium earlier this season in round eight, it resulted in a 24-24 draw with 3,146 in attendance to witness the exciting derby in the League 1 competition.

“It’s good that all Cumbrian teams are doing so well this season,” said Stack.

“It shows how much talent is actually in Cumbria.”

Barrow’s away trip to Workington was postponed due to Covid-19, in which Stack added, “It’s a bit of a shame not getting to play against Town again, but that’s gone now and we have to worry about us."

Paul Crarey’s side have won 10 from 13 so far this season, and look to bounce back this weekend as they travel to Doncaster following only their second defeat of the season the previous round.

Stack commented: "It was pretty disappointing not to come away with a win at North Wales.

"We had a really good week of preparation leading up to the game but we didn’t put it action on the weekend. We certainly have the personnel to match any team which is why it was so disappointing not to come away with the win.

"This week we have spoke about the importance now of finishing these last four weeks as best we can and hopefully going unbeaten. So, if Town slip up we would reclaim the top spot but if not we are in the best position leading up to the finals.

"This week we travel to Doncaster, another long away trip but preparation has been good. They haven’t had good recent form but we aren’t looking into that too much because it’s all about who shows up on the day."

Raiders started the 2021 campaign with one of the strongest squads in the campaign, and have added depth during the season with the likes of Liam Harrison, Hakim Miloudi and Jake Emmitt.

Stack said: "The squad have really come together through the year, everyone knows their roles and when someone gets injured or not selected, the next person comes in and does their job for the team.

"Jake Emmitt is a star. I have played against him for years and he has always been a stand-out so to line up with him is just a bonus on top of all the talent we have across the board."
