FIONA Hanlon won a landslide victory in the Grange by-elections with a large majority over the other candidates.

Fiona achieved 1336 votes for the Liberal Democrats in the Grange district election, vastly out performing all other parties on the ballot.

The vote took place on August 12.

Fiona plans to use her new position to bring in 'cooperation, kindness, and a better quality of life' for those who have placed their trust in her.

She said: "I have to say I was not expecting this at all.

"I'm gobsmacked and knackered after all of this.

"Stephen Chambers was a great local candidate so I didn't want to take any votes for granted.

"I am so grateful to the people who have placed their trust in me, and for the Lib Dems team who gave me so much support through all of this.

"The thing I think people are drawn to is 'kindness' and that's a big part of my stance.

"What matters is family, friends, fairness, quality of life, and I hope that’s why I got across to voters.

"I want to cooperate with other parties as well. During campaigning I had a group of locals with me who were blue, red, green and orange voters, but they all said they believed in me.

"I want to repay the community that put its faith in me.

"I was so humbled when Tim offered me the opportunity. He's done so much for me and I wanted to make him proud."

Liberal Democrat MP Tim Farron said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Fiona.

"She’s a fantastic ambassador for Grange and Allithwaite, and cares passionately about making those communities even better places to live.

"She’ll be a brilliant district councillor who will work her absolute socks off for local residents.”
