Ulverston paramedic Ken Moore did not quite know what he had let himself in for when Urswick Brownies wanted a to present a £57 donation to St John Ambulance in 1993.

Unfortunately for Ken, who helped with St John Ambulance, the Brownies wanted to show him just what they had learned during first aid courses run by the charity.

They demonstrated their skill with triangular bandages, using Ken as a model, but he took it in great good humour.

The cash, a thank you for the first aid courses, was raised through a coffee morning.

In June 1994 the 10th Barrow St Mary of Furness Rainbow Guide Group, was the latest to be formed in the town.

They were thrilled to receive their enrolment certificates from Barrow’s mayor Cllr Betty Willacy and mayoress Mrs Catherine Emanuel.

In 1996 the 35th Rampside Brownie pack paid a visit to Barrow Town Hall to help clean the mayor’s silverware.

The trip was arranged to help mark the North West of England Guide Association’s silver jubilee.

During the visit the Brownies met mayor and mayoress of Barrow Cllr Flo Proudfoot and Cllr Jean Waiting.

In October 1997 11 teams of Brownies - each with four contestants - took part in the Barrow Division Brownies’ Forester’s Cup competition at the Nelson Street Centre in the town.

The contest that year involved the teams making a collage of part of the Brownie Story.

The judges were Miss B Summer and Mrs L Garforth.

They had a very difficult time choosing the winner, but eventually opted for the 12th Barrow (Dalton Church) Brownie Pack.

Also in 1997 members of the 17th Barrow and Dalton Church Brownies enjoyed a visit by Michelle Robinson, the proprietor of the Health and Beauty Clinic in Crellin Street at Barrow. The Brownies had recently donated £50 to the children's ward at Furness General Hospital.
