READERS have voiced their frustration after councillors raised fears over congestion in Barrow caused by Uber Eats drivers parking as they wait to collect food before delivery.

Crellin Street, near McDonald’s in the town centre, and Hollywood Retail Park have been named as problem areas.

Reader Tom Allonby said: “Complaints of speeding, being on their phones, beeping and harassing women and being a general nuisance to the public. Lovely little group of people.”

Dan Purdy said: “Hollywood Park is a nightmare when there are queues for the fast food drive-throughs. An easy fix would be to move the entrance to Ironworks Road and the exit to the roundabout.”

Ange Carter said: “Don’t put it on here – get the council involved. It’s bad – really stupid – and even worse the traffic trying to get into new burger place trying to turn right to get one, meanwhile the lights by the rugby ground go red making it worse as by then traffic is at a halt by little roundabout at Tesco.

“It’s a crash waiting to happen.”

Andy Crossman said: “It’s the drivers that are the issue, forever on their phones driving like idiots. Going to be a serious accident if it's not addressed.”

Ruth Turner said: “Nightmare, both of them.”

Jme Wall said: “They drive round like they are exempt to speed limits, not a care in the world for the public when they’re flying off from town Maccies.”

Margaret Johnson said: “Crellin Street is absolutely ridiculous, some of the the drivers are arrogant, illegally parked, blocking the road by leaning (roadside) into other cars to chat!

“There’s a big car park adjacent.

“Surely McDonald's can afford to pay for parking spaces in this car park? God knows they’re making a fortune.”

Dalton lad said: “It isn’t just the Uber drivers. The roundabout is often blocked.”

Barrow Insider said: “And now McDonald’s are wanting to bring the same chaos to Ulverston, blocking up main transport links on the A590.”
