A BARROW mum who was struggling to find work during the pandemic used her spare time during lockdown to complete qualifications and find new work with the support of a training company.

Diane Thompson, from Ormsgill, used the extra time at home to use PHX Training’s remote learning classes to achieve qualifications in functional skills and a Level 2 Customer Service award.

As a result of completing the online learning through computer courses and video calls, Diane has now secured new work at the Barrow's Vue Cinema which reopened in May.

The course allowed Diane to develop her skills communicating with customers, handling problems and studying the key principles of customer service.

She said: “It was easy to access the online learning and gave me the flexibility to work when it suited me. This was good as I was home schooling and needed to share the computer.

“I am excited to be starting work again and using my new understanding of customer service to help me in my role. I believe that through working with staff at PHX Training, my confidence has grown and I have been able to add new qualifications to my CV, which has certainly helped me in getting back to work.”

PHX Training, which has a centre in Barrow's Rawlinson Street, offers a range of in person qualifications in addition to online learning.

The company also has training centres throughout Lancashire and Cumbria at Carlisle, Workington, Morecambe, Preston and Blackpool, to help people complete training courses and apprenticeships to help people back into work.

It delivers government-backed initiatives including adult skills – maths, English and vocational courses, employability contracts and apprenticeships.
