FURNESS Coastguard was called out after a boat got its anchor rope wrapped around its propeller.

The team attended the incident on Walney just before 7pm last night after receiving a distress call from a person on the motorboat.

They proceeded to a vantage point on the south end of Walney Island, where Barrow Lifeboat had already launched their all-weather lifeboat to assist the stranded vessel.

A Furness Coastguard spokesperson said: “With the boat successfully under tow by the lifeboat they returned it back to its mooring in Walney channel, the team were stood down with no further assistance required.

“If in danger around the coast, or you think someone else is, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
