A NEW car dealership could be coming to Ulverston.

Jason Hadwin, of Lakeland Land Rover in Torver, has submitted plans to South Lakeland District Council to extend a workshop building at Crakeside Business Park in Greenodd and convert it to a Jaguar Land Rover dealership.

According to the design and access statement, the proposed facility would replace the current Lakeland Land Rover dealership in Torver.

The proposed three-acre site has one large workshop building used for the servicing of motor vehicles.

Plans set out expanding the workshop’s current 30 car parking spaces to 110.

According to the plans, Jaguar Land Rover has identified key locations throughout the UK to ‘provide their new identity’, including Greenodd.

The plan states: “Following the current success of the Jaguar Land Rover brand, a new global corporate identity has been developed. A key element of the new identity is the distinct nature of the façade and generally improving the quality of services offered to customers.

“Jaguar Land Rover have identified key locations throughout the UK to provide their new identity which will provide customers with modern premises better suited to the needs of customers.

“The new corporate identity has been designed in a modular nature to allow it to be rolled out throughout the world."

The proposal is to convert the existing workshop into a new service centre which will also be utilised as a sales facility for Land Rover vehicles.

An extension will be constructed to the south of the existing building in order to provide additional workshop bays, the plans state.

The colour palette will be as per the Jaguar Land Rover standards, with dark grey cladding to the front-of-house elevation and new aluminium frame shopfront glazing.

In addition, the front elevation will utilise local Lakeland slate so as to pay due regard to the building's surroundings.

The building will also be divided into different areas: car display, customer care, sales desks, aftercare, offices, facilities and handover.

The proposed showroom and workshops are to be double-height spaces with a first floor above the offices and customer care. The existing car parking and display areas are to be remodelled.

A spokesman for Jaguar Land Rover UK said: "The planning application reflects the relocation of the Lakeland Jaguar Land Rover Service Centre from Torver, Coniston, to Greenodd to allow them to expand and adjoin their existing location with the ability to retail used Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.

"This reflects our franchise partner's continued faith and investment in Jaguar Land Rover providing increased support for customers in the region and reflecting our updated corporate identity."
