TESCO has apologised to shoppers after 'technical issues' resulted in people being charged.

The issue was reported at a number of sites across the country, including a store in Barrow.

One shopper said they had been charged twice the Tesco store in Roose.

Bosses of the supermarket said anyone affected by the error would receive a refund.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We had a temporary problem with a small number of contactless card payments in our stores on Saturday.

"We very quickly fixed the issue but we are sorry to any customer that was affected. Customers will only pay once and any duplicate authorisations in their accounts will be automatically reversed.”

One Barrow shopper told the company on social media: "I shopped in your Roose, Barrow in Furness, store yesterday and have been charged twice."

The company said: "I am sorry you have been charged twice in our store.

"There were some technical issues which have now been resolved and any duplicate payments will be refunded."

Anyone who has shopped at Tesco since last Friday has been urged to check their bank account to make sure they have not been charged twice.
