Flookburgh Charter Fair was held in the youth club field for the first time in 1987 and it was a huge success.

The Charter procession began in Cark and was led by the Flookburgh Band and Barrow Sea Cadets Band.

The youth club field was lined with stalls of every kind.

The charter queen, Shirley Hudson, with her ladies-in-waiting Emma Bland and Tracy Hudson and the flower girls Alison Hornby and Jane Moor were accompanied by the previous year's queen Janet Oldcorn and her lady-in-waiting Katherine Stanley.

The Cubs, led by Mrs J. Johnston (Akela) and Mrs Joyce Benson (Balloo) marched around the field with their flags.

The fancy dress parade took place and entrants were judged by Miss Pat Taylor.

The Charter Queen at the 1988 fair was 12-year-old Teena Wilson.

After a deluge in 1990, the venue for the charter fair in 1991 was moved from the grounds of Flookburgh Youth Club to the village primary school so that if it rained everything could be moved inside.

But the sun shone most of the day and the rain held off until the finish.

District nurse Miss Peggy Stephenson opened the fair, with stalls manned by local organisations including the Women's Institute, the Mothers' Union and Grange Lions.

The Charter Queen was Kelly Shaw. She was crowned by retiring lady-in-waiting Claire Hornby.

Flookburgh Silver Band played throughout the afternoon and a marching display was given by the Red Admirals Majorette team.

Miss Stephenson judged the fancy dress competition and announced that Lucy Hall, Michelle and Joanne Rosthorne and Jill and Kelly Rhodes were the prizewinners.

The fair closed with the Charter Queen drawing the raffle with prizes donated by local shops and pubs.

The proceeds of the event would go to local organisations.

The Charter Queen at the event in 1992 was Kirsty Oldcorn, nine.

In 1993 the queen was 11-year-old Alanna Hargan.
