High Furness cub scouts held their sports and gold Arrow Awards day at Ulverston in 1988.

The 2nd Ulverston The Oaks team walked off with the winner's trophy. Urswick and Aldingham took the runners-up shield, with Flookburgh in third place.

All presentations were made by the District Commissioner for cubs and scouts Dave Reynolds.

Later in 1988, the Third Millom St George's Cub Scouts held a presentation evening in St George's Hall in 1988, at which District Commissioner Eric Greatorex presented cubs Gavin Robinson, Ben Lapham, Stephen Evans and Neil Withycombe with their Gold Arrow Awards.

Vic Crossman (Akela) presented cub-of-the-year Michael Iddon with his award.

The district commissioner also presented a long service award to Eileen O'Connell, of Kirksanton, for 15 years of service.

Beaver leader Heather Grigg presented awards to best all-round beaver Tony Hartley, best attendance to Paul Pennington and Eager Beaver to Gareth Sowerby.

Mrs Grigg also receiver her Scouter's warrant card from the district commissioner.

In 1991 a team from St Paul's Eagles Cub Scouts certainly knew their onions when they were tested on their scouting knowledge.

In the Pearson trophy competition, which was open to all Barrow cub packs, the St Paul's youngsters have the right answers on the country code, cloud formations, first aid, mini pioneering, water safety and packing a rucksack.

In 1993 members of the Sacred Heart Cubs and Brownies, based at Lumley Street, Barrow, enjoyed a tour of Barrow Town Hall.

During their visit they presented a cheque for £10 for the mayor's charity fund to mayor Cllr Joyce Fleet and mayoress Mrs Phyll Palmer.

Nine-year-old cub Martin Scarr was lent the mayoral chains by Cllr Fleet and was allowed to sit in the mayor's seat in the council chamber as part of the tour.

In 1994 cubs from the 10th Barrow Vickerstown pack were given a tour of Barrow Fire Station.
