PLANS to convert an historic pub into houses have been delayed.

Barrow council's planning committee was told not all parts of the application for the New Inn in Biggar Village, Walney, had been submitted in time for it to be discussed.

Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, said: “This will be one of our shortest meetings as we have not received all parts of the application in time for today.”

The plans had previously been refused and the applicant was attempting to make a second attempt to be allowed to convert it into two new separate three-bedroom houses, with room for six parking spaces.

The previous application was refused in February because it was not in keeping with the look of the historic building.

The new application had been altered by proposing to replace the dormer style windows with smaller, roof peaks, along with windows that continue up from the front wall. The large panes of glass and French doors along with the Juliet balconies have been replaced in the new design with simple casement windows.

Case officer Barry Jesson was to recommend refusal because the property sits next to areas at risk of flooding and that the new alterations to the building are considered to be overly dominant.

The New Inn had been for sale by Ross Estate agents for £495,000 and had described itself as a traditional farmhouse originally dating from 1674. The next Barrow borough council planning committee meeting will be held on July 13 at 2.30pm.
