EDDIE ‘the Eagle’ Edwards will be returning to Barrow as he signs up for the Super Soapbox Challenge this August.

After setting the first time down in the ramp in 2019, Eddie is delighted to be returning ahead of this year’s event on 29 August.

He said: “I had lots of fun at the event in 2019 and the people of Barrow made me feel really welcome. With everything people have had to go through in the past 15 months it is great to have the opportunity to put a smile back on people's faces."

Eddie’s return is ‘fantastic news,’ according to Colin Garnett, who believes this year’s Super Soapbox Challenge will top 2019’s edition.

The Barrow BID manager said: “It is fantastic news getting Eddie on board as he is a real crowd favourite and you can tell he enjoys being at the event. We have had to wait a long time since our first Super Soapbox Challenge in June 2019, but it will be worth the wait, with the 2021 event set to be bigger and better than before.

"People don't have to rush and book holidays abroad during the August Bank Holiday weekend as Barrow will be the place to be. The Fudstock Music Festival takes place on Saturday 28th and the Super Soapbox Challenge on the 29th, so we expect a high number of visitors from away and a few bleary eyed people watching the Soapbox on the Sunday."

There are limited places still available in the Super Soapbox event, so if you or your company want to enter a Soapbox Racer and take on 'the Eagle' down the Barrow town centre course, visit the official website to enter: https://supersoapboxchallenge.co.uk/enter/

The Super Soapbox event is organised by Barrow BID as a way of boosting the economy of the town centre, increasing local pride and changing the perception of the town.

The 2021 event will be sponsored by BAE Systems with the finish line and stage area sponsored by Ørsted.

The Super Soapbox Challenge event is a free, family-friendly event taking place in Barrow town centre.

There will be additional activities for families including a fairground.
