READERS voiced their views ahead of a Covid announcement by Boris Johnson on Monday evening.

The prime minister was expected to announce further delays to the ending of social distancing rules on June 21 as the Delta variant continues to spread rapidly across the country.

Sue Calvert said: “Yes, for once, he is absolutely right , but even longer as children break up soon so another spike later on.”

Lee Thompson said: “I think it’s a wise choice to make, after all, the government said it was following data, not dates. I’d rather be in this lockdown for a bit longer than have to go into another one down the line.”

Ash Howson said: “You honestly think it’s just another four weeks?? This will go on forever.”

Carol Ann Fleming said: “With new variants you wonder when its going to end?Or are we going to build up an immunity to it ? Boris can only go by the scientists who advise him, but it will bring more people out to rebel against it if he delays it thus spreading it more.

Antöny Statham said: “Perhaps when people follow the rules a little more we can come out of this. It’s annoying, but loads of people are exempt from face masks and businesses are powerless to discriminate. The people have had enough. I certainly have. My business is dormant at the moment. Yet bills are still being paid.”

Greg Rose said: “No, what’s the point this virus is here to stay? Lockdowns keep it at bay but it’s the same old story, time after time. Life needs to go on, the businesses affected need revenue.”
