REACTION to a beer garden set up on the pitch of a rugby league club at the weekend was varied.

Some Mail readers commended people for going out and enjoying themselves, while others expressed concerns about an apparent lack of social distancing.

The public gathered at Craven Park, home of Barrow Raiders, to watch the England football team’s European Championship opener against Croatia on Sunday.

After a video of the event was published to The Mail’s Facebook page, readers had their say.

Julie Higgs said: “Glad to see people out having a brilliant time.”

Daryl Quayle said: “Looks fantastic! I wish there were somewhere here in Manchester with the same vibe!”

Sharon Wood said: “Not sure that Covid restrictions are being totally followed!”

Lisa Neale said: “Sharon Wood, I PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test weekly and lateral flow test at least twice weekly, usually more often.

“I have also had both vaccines, as have all my group of friends. Please educate me as to how me going into a beer garden with a group of friends is causing you or anyone else any danger?

“If you don’t like it, stay home, but do not criticise others for living their lives.”

Gordon Long said: “Enjoy life or forever be held in chains to increasing Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

“If you prefer to be on lockdown, stay in your house for the next 10 years.”

Leaf Marcus said: “It looked really awesome, wish I was there, but watched footy with the parents who live in flats next to the rugby ground.

“But I felt the happy vibes as the England game went on.”

Ruth Rhodes said: “Social distancing gone out the window.”

Lori Robinson said: “Watch it, the Delta variant on the rise.”

Kelly Oulton said: “I knew the fun sponges would be all over this.

“Simple — if you don’t feel safe, stay home. Let people get on with it.”
