A YOUNG girl was reunited with her dog after a local MP stepped in to save the day.

Trudy Harrison MP reunited Jack Russell Dotty with her seven-year-old owner Poppy from Silecroft after she escaped from her garden on Thursday.

Ms Harrison was returning to her constituency office from a visit to Millom Network Centre and Millom Heritage and Arts Centre when she found Dotty on the A595, just south of Silecroft at 3pm on June 3.

The MP for Copeland looked after the two-year-old canine escapee for a short time in her Bootle office until the happy reunion could take place.

Using social media Ms Harrison was soon able to locate the worried owners.

"Huge thank you to Around the Combe for their help in identifying the worried owners of Dotty,” said Ms Harrison.

“ I am confident that if my dog had escaped from my home someone would do the same for me, and I am delighted that there has been a happy ending for Poppy and her family."
