READERS have given their thoughts after Cumbria Police have said they believe residents have welcomed their dog fouling patrols across Furness.

Police community support officers and community officers have been teaming up with environment officers from Street Care, as part of their plans to clamp down on the issue.

The patrols have been carried out in highlighted areas.

These include Walney, Dalton, Askam and Roanhead.

This is what our readers had to say:

Ray Maddox said: "Nope the only way to stop the problem is to fine people, and for a change I think the public would agree to have dog wardens out at all times that receive bonus for everyone they fine."

Michael P Cassells said: "In Manchester and Trafford litter disappeared in months when fines started getting issued."

Maureen Balding said: "There has been those signs around for decades hasn't done much good."

Dawn Mckellar said: "I don't think a few signs will stop people, no.

"They tend to do it when they think no-one is watching."

Tony Weir said: "Until they starting naming the offenders, nothing will change."

John Phillips said: "More dog waste bins do help - quickest solution if you live within a problem area is buy one and empty it yourself."

Dan Minnican said: "Need to come and see Hartington Street communal yard... Always dog poo in there Barrow Borough Council."

Greg Rose said: "They'll be about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike."

Linda Hall said: "Who is going to be brave enough to tackle people on their dogs fouling the streets?

"The abuse they receive will be horrendous, and how would they get their names as they wouldn’t have any authority to do so, and the offenders would know this!

"Sorry to be negative but it’s a valid question for the authorities as it is a good idea as they need to do something to clean up the streets."
