TWO youths were rescued in Askam earlier today.
Duddon Inshore Rescue (DIR) were called out at 1.58pm to two juveniles cut off on a sandbank, south of Askam Pier.
A spokesman said: "As the crew arrived to the south of the pier, the two were wading back to the shore, two crew waded the short distance to escort them to safety.
"After a safety talk with DIR and Furness Coastguard they were taken back to the lifeboat station and then taken home .
"These two had a lucky escape. If it wasn't for one of our crew, who happened to be on scene, calling the Coastguard this could have had a different outcome.
"Always be vigilant on the beach. If you see something that makes you think it is not right or safe, call the coastguard.
"Better to be safe than sorry."
If in any danger around the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
