DETERMINED cyclists have completed an epic riding challenge across Cumbria in support of a cancer charity.

Dozens of Booths staff members took part in the Tour O'Booths this week in a bid to raise awareness and funds for Cure Leukaemia, The Blood Cancer Charity.

Inspired by the Tour de France, chief operating officer Nigel Murray gathered a team of over 50 people from colleagues to suppliers, who rode 600km across the north of England, calling in at all 27 Booths shops, as well as three support sites and two cancer treatment centres.

The group finished their five-day tour of northern England yesterday and paid a visit to the Ulverston store whilst on route. Staff members were out in full force supporting their colleagues taking on the challenge.

Specialist manager at Ulverston Booths Dan Atherton said: "It was fantastic to support our colleagues on their epic ride, there was a great atmosphere in store and we had lots of support from local suppliers.

"There was a true community spirit in Ulverston and it was a pleasure to welcome the mayor along too.

"Charities have been hit hard by the loss of fundraising initiatives over the pandemic and it was brilliant to join forces to raise money for a deserving cause.”

The Cumbrian leg of the tour kicked off from Penrith on Thursday, visiting Keswick, Windermere Kendal and Ulverston.

COO Nigel Murray is taking on the full Tour de France route later this month as well.

"We first did the Tour O’ Booths a couple of years ago, and it was a great experience,” said Mr Murray.

“After a hugely challenging year for our teams at Booths the tour is a chance to come together in a shared cause."

Booths stores will be holding a range of activities, raffles and fundraisers to help raise funds for Cure Leukaemia and cheer on the team as they complete their epic journey.
