TENS of thousands of people in Barrow have received their Covid vaccination - and now those aged 30 and above are being invited to receive their jab.

Barrow and Millom Primary Care Network is inviting people aged 30 or above for their first Covid vaccine after it was announced that anyone in this age group is now eligible for the vaccine.

One million more people aged 30 and 31 will be invited by text over the coming days, leaving only adults between 18 and 29 yet to get the nod to come forward.

Since opening up to people in their thirties, nearly four million appointments have been booked.

Around 50,000 people in Barrow have now received both a combination of the first and second vaccination.

Dr Sarah Arun, local GP and clinical director of Barrow and Millom Primary Care Network praised the progress of the vaccination rollout in Barrow.

She said: “The rollout of the vaccination programme in Barrow is going really well and we’re grateful to everyone who has so far come forward to be vaccinated.

“We are following JCVI and NHSE guidance and have now invited those who are aged 30 and over to have their COVID-19 vaccine.

“I would also like to remind people that if they can’t attend their vaccination appointment to make sure they cancel it, so the appointment time can be allocated to another patient. To do this simply go back on the link you were sent in your text invite.

“When you’re invited for your vaccine please come forward, together we can do this.”

In a social media post shared online, a spokesman for the Barrow and Millom Primary Care Network said: “We have invited everyone aged 30 years or above and will soon be inviting the next cohort of 18 years to 29 years.

“Please have your vaccine when you are invited.

“To remind everyone again, it’s the Pfizer vaccine for anyone under the age of 40 years. For people aged 40 years and above, it could be either of the two vaccines."

Nurse and Covid-19 Vaccination Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria Jane Scattergood said: “Getting the vaccine is the single most important step we can take to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities against Covid-19, with the jabs saving thousands of lives already, and today the biggest and most successful NHS Covid vaccination programme in history is rolling out to everyone in their thirties.

“The offer of a vaccine doesn’t expire so if you are eligible and haven’t booked please do come forward when you’re invited to.”
