YUNGNIEN takeaway fans have reacted to the news of its closure.

Owners of the Cavendish Street restaurant announced this week that they were retiring after 40 years serving up Chinese food for customers.

The owners posted a message on their social media, stating: “Dear customers, after 40 years of business we have decided that this would be the right time to retire.

"It has been an absolute pleasure to serve you all, and we have met thousands of wonderful people during all these years, many of these have remained to be good friends.

"We are very grateful for all your custom, support and love.

"It’s been quite an amazing journey and we enjoyed feeding everyone!"

The takeaway’s close proximity to many of Barrow’s town centre pubs and clubs meant it was popular with late night revellers.

The restaurant was flooded with messages of gratitude from fans from over the years.

Julia Charnley said: “Loved Yungnien food, sorry to hear you’re retiring but wishing you well for the future.”

Emma Holdforth said: “Aw! Best Chinese around! You deserve the best Jean! Happy retirement!”

Kerry Horan said: “My favourite Chinese. Enjoy your retirement and thank you.”

Rose Campbell said: “Happy retirement guys & thank you.”

Deb Henry said: “My favourite. Best prawn crackers in town.”

Mary Kite said: “Ended many a night out in here. Sad loss.”

Sandra Turner: “My favourite Chinese takeaway. Wishing you a happy retirement.”

Desmond Sunflower said: “I remember it opening.

"All the best in your retirement, given some of the scenes we've all witnessed in there you've earned it.”
