ROOSEGATE councillors are working together to improve the area and combat dog fouling.

Barrow Borough Councillors Martin McLeavy and Jay Zaccarini, along with Cumbria County Councillor Derek Gawne, Streetcare's Maria Green and a representative of CCC Highways held a walkabout around of North and South Row, and the Stonedyke Lane area to take a look at issues such as dog fouling in the community.

Cllr McLeavy said he was pleased to not find any dog muck, but said that residents had been cleaning areas at the bottom of South Row "three to four times a day", whom he praised saying: "It's really good of people to go out there and do that."

He said: "The main thing is, people need to get a grip, stop doing these things. People play in the grass, children walk around there, and it's dangerous. Dog muck can cause all sorts of problems with children like blindness.

"We're trying to encourage, 'report it, report it, report it', the more you report dog fouling, the more evidence we have there is an issue. It's simple. Don't take it as though you are dobbing people in, take it as though you are protecting the environment and the children who play and walk around there.

"We were also looking at cracked pavements, the state of the roads and things like that. It's difficult to act on something if there are no reports. Potholes, pavements, roads - Cumbria County Council, get it reported, and dog fouling, litter, and those types of things, report it to the Barrow Borough Council website.

"A big thank you to Maria Green from Streetcare - she is a star."
