A COUPLE with a love of the Lakes became the first to tie the knot on Windermere Lake Cruises after lockdown.

Alex and Bianca Kehoe from London had wanted a big wedding. But when the Covid pandemic intervened they decided smaller could be beautiful – and where better to celebrate their marriage than on Windermere.

The couple stepped aboard the traditional launch “Queen of the Lake” for a cruise down Windermere to mark their big day surrounded by stunning Lake District Scenery.

Now Windermere Lake Cruises plans more “big day” bliss as restrictions ease further from Monday.

From then, groups of up to 30 people can attend wedding celebrations on vessels which can be hired exclusively for wedding party guests in Covid-19 secure conditions.

From June 21, at the earliest, the Government hopes to lift all remaining limits on the size of wedding parties.

Jennifer Cormack, Windermere Lake Cruises’ sales & marketing director said: “We are delighted and looking forward to welcoming back wedding parties to offer them an unforgettable way to celebrate their big day.

“As the third lockdown comes to an end, we are fully resourced and able to build on our strong track record of being ready to operate in whatever Covid-19 secure ways are required.”

This was Alex and Bianca’s first visit to the Lake District and, like all visitors, they have made memories to last a lifetime. After a registry office service in London – they headed up to the Lake District for a celebrant service at Blea Tarn before enjoying the Windermere cruise.

The day was organised and captured on film by Lake District wedding photographer Jo Greenfield and photographer Jenny Appleton.

“Alex and Bianca had wanted a big wedding,” says Jo. “But with the pandemic and with parents living in both Australia and America they decided to just do it! And where better?

“I designed the day around the things they told me they are interested in.”
