SUPERMARKET chain Waitrose is relaunching its food sharing platters with a 'significant' reduction in packaging.

The store aims to save 30 tonnes of single-use plastic and card a year on 10 lines of sharing sandwiches, rolls and wraps will now contain 65 per cent less packaging overall.

The platters now have a cardboard base, saving 60 per cent of single-use plastic on sandwiches and 40 per cent single-use plastic on wraps.

It says that the new boxes and film are fully recyclable.

The products have been redesigned and without an outer case or lid which means the sandwiches and wraps are 'ready to serve'.
