PLANS have been put forward ahead of an industrial site being decommissioned.

A proposal has been submitted ahead of the demolition of a steel frame structure at McBride in Barrow.

It will make up plans to remove one of the plants on the site and comes after bosses announced plans to close in 2019.

A statement submitted alongside the planning application described how the plant needed to be demolished because removal of the steel structure would cause it be unstable.

Plans described how cladding on the building would be removed followed by the steel frame.

The planning application said: "The plant is being decommissioned.

"Removal of the process plant and supports renders the structure of the building unstable."

The site, in Barrow's Park Road, has been placed up for sale.

A listing by property agents JLL said: "The complex is located on a self-contained site fronting Park Road in a mixed area of residential and employment uses.

"The premises have been extended and adapted to suit the current occupier’s requirements. The property can be divided into four sections.

"The two main plant buildings are to the rear of the production and warehouse area and are of steel frame construction with profile clad elevations and roof.

"Plant 1 will be removed by the vendors."

McBride announced plans to shut its factory in Barrow with a loss of 106 jobs in November 2019, blaming the move on a fall in demand for the laundry powders manufactured at the site, with the detergent market shifting toward liquids.
