WALNEY Island has been named as the start point for an ‘alternative coast to coast trail’ - one of a series of walks that will take people away from busier areas.
The walk, a departure from the well-trodden St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay route, sees adventurers finish off at Holy Island off the coast of Northumberland.
The route was highlighted in an article by national newspaper the Guardian.
The piece says: “From there [Walney] you wind your way over Lakeland (Coniston, Langdale, Ullswater, all a bit well trodden) then up into the North Pennines to Alston, Hexham and the Cheviots.
“The route ends with a second tidal sands section.”
The alternative coast to coast route was one of a series of walks in which hikers ‘won’t see another soul’ to be highlighted in the article.
