AN AIR Ambulance was called out to a 'medical emergency' in a South Lakeland village this morning.
Emergency services attended a private address in Trinkeld Avenue, Swarthmoor, near Ulverston, at around 10am.
A helicopter landed in the grounds of Swarthmoor Social Football Club.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: "It was a patient who was reported to be suffering from a serious medical problem, so we flew a doctor and paramedic.
"They treated the patient on-scene then accompanied them to hospital by road."
The spokesman said the patient was taken to Furness General Hospital in Barrow and that sometimes the location of the patient meant it was quicker for them to go by road rather than air.
A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We have taken a patient to the hospital.
"Two ambulances and an air ambulance attended as well as an operational commander."
A village resident said a small group of people turned out to the football club to see what was going on.
He said an air ambulance was 'a little bit unusual' for Swarthmoor.
"There weren't a lot of people, maybe half-a-dozen," he said.
"A bit like me - curious about what was going on. That's all I can say."
