VOICES from Sellafield’s past are being featured in a new digital archive.
The oral history of ‘Sellafield Stories’ wast started by the Whitehaven Archive and Local Studies Centre, with funding from British Nuclear Fuels.
The project recorded over 100 interviews with people closely connected to Sellafield including employees, residents and anti-nuclear campaigners.
Cataloguing Manager Vicki Caren said of the tapes: “Their differing perspectives give a fascinating insight not only into the nuclear industry, but also into the local economy and its heavy reliance on Sellafield.
“Often in the same interview you can hear people on this dilemma of the positives and negatives of Sellafield on the area of West Cumbria as a whole.”
You can listen to the interviews at northwestsoundheritage.org/2021/03/04/living-in-the-nuclear-age.
