DEVASTATED cat owners have set up a Go Fund Me after a dog attack left their beloved family pet needing major surgery.

Luna, the domestic long-haired cat was attacked by a dog near to the family home on Hood Street in Barrow.

After failing to immediately raise the amount needed, the cat has now been taken into the care of Animal Refuge in Barrow.

The family are continuing their appeal so that they can pass the funds onto Animal Refuge Furness to pay for the surgery.

Owner Angela Jones said: “We desperately need to raise the funds for our baby girl Luna's vet bills.”

Luna needed X-rays and her leg was so badly damaged in the attack it will need amputating. She also needs further surgery to repair a puncture wound in her side.

Angela said: “We are so gutted this has happened to her however we really cannot afford £2000 in vet bills. Any help would really be appreciated and honestly mean the world to us all.

“We just don’t want to lose her. Our hearts are breaking for her. She might be just a cat but it’s our cat, we are all devastated.

Luna is currently in the care of Animal Refuge Furness while she waits for her surgery.

Angels said: “We have had to sign our baby girl over to the Animal Refuge, they will cover costs and look after Luna while she is in recovery for at least 6 weeks. All going well this does mean we can still see her, and we will keep everyone updated.

“For the money that has been kindly donated already and is still continuing to be donated to this second I will be giving every penny to Animal Refuge as they are the ones that have been able to help us save our girl Luna in time.

“Obviously this isn’t what we wanted and are very heartbroken about this however we had to put Luna’s health and best interests first.

“I just want to say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all the donations, support and love we have received for her. We are overwhelmed.”

The family are now appealing for witnesses to the attack which happened on Wednesday May 5 on Hood Street in Barrow.

Angela Jones said: “Did anyone see anything around 3:30pm on May 5 on Hood Street (Hindpool Area)?

“Apparently, someone has stood there and PURPOSELY LET their dog attack our beautiful cat Luna. We would like to know what’s happened as this has been very upsetting for my family.”

Anyone with information regarding the attack should contact Barrow RSPCA on 01229 824583.

Donations are being collected for Luna's fund on the family's Go Fund Me page, you can donate at https://gofund.me/2326c0d0.
